Asheville Pet Odor Removal

asheville pet odor removal

What’s that smell???

Hey Asheville, pet odor removal is possible!

Is your home plagued by pet odors that you can’t seem to get rid of? Chances are, those unpleasant smells are coming from your carpet. So is it a lost cause, or is there a way to rid your home of the foul smells without shipping your furry friends off to the farm?

Maybe your puppy had a few accidents in the living room before you succeeded in house-training him. Or your cat has a habit of kicking litter from her box from the vinyl-floored bathroom into the carpeted hallway. These smells can stick around even if you succeeded in removing the stains! That’s because the smell is actually coming from the bottom of the carpet, or even the padding underneath. But potty accidents aren’t the only cause of pet odors in carpet. Fur and dander can also get ground down into the carpet fibers, accumulating over time and leading to that unmistakeable “dog smell”.

You might not even notice the pet odor in your home on a regular basis. Humans get acclimated over time to the smells of our furry friends. Sometimes it takes leaving the house for a vacation or business trip and coming back home to notice the smells. It might be slightly embarrassing to know that visitors smell this odor that you don’t even notice!

But regardless of whether your carpet’s pet odors stem from a rough house-training period, or just months of accumulated hair and dander, rest assured that hope is not lost! You don’t have to rip out the carpet and start over. Quality professional carpet cleaning can address these smells for good.

Remember to choose a carpet cleaning company that uses a non-toxic cleaning solution. This is of utmost importance in order to protect your pets’ (and your family’s) health.

If you live in the Asheville, NC area and are struggling with unpleasant pet odors in your home, give Five Step Carpet Care a call. Or you can contact us here.

We’ll get rid of those smelly spots so that you and your pets can enjoy your carpet again! Best of all, we’ll do it without leaving any toxic residue behind.

Carpet Care for Small Businesses

Let’s talk about carpet care for small businesses!

carpet care for small businesses

If you own a small business, you know how overwhelming it can be to make sure that everything gets done. Product and service delivery, hiring, billing, customer service, marketing, equipment maintenance, payroll, and taxes have all got to be completed on schedule. And with all of those demands on an entrepreneur’s time, it’s understandable that some other things always seem to get put off until later.

Why is Professional Carpet Care So Important?

Getting your carpets professionally cleaned can often be one of those “back burner” tasks. But if your small business location has carpet, it’s important to keep it looking fresh and clean—especially if you receive customers at your business location. But aesthetics are not the only concern. Your health, as well as that of your employees and customers, is also a factor.

Over time, carpets accumulate pollutants that can become a health hazard. Some of these pollutants, such as mold spores, pollen, and dust, are sufficiently combated with regular vacuuming. But others–like bacteria, viruses, chemicals and pesticides–can only be extracted with professional cleaning. These contaminants can be transferred onto carpets from foot traffic, drafts from an open door, spills, or even sneezes. In order to keep your business location’s carpets beautiful AND healthy, it’s a good idea to commit to routine cleaning.

How Often Should I Have My Business’ Carpets Cleaned?

But how often should you have your business’ carpets cleaned? Well, that depends on what kind of business you are running. Here are some guidelines to help you decide:

• If you do not receive clients at your location, and you have relatively little foot traffic, you can probably get by with yearly professional cleanings.
• If your business location does receive clients, or has moderate to heavy foot traffic, two to three cleanings a year are recommended.
• Restaurants, hotels, and nursing homes should have carpets cleaned more frequently in order to maintain a healthy environment. Monthly cleaning is recommended.
• Elementary and high schools should have carpets cleaned on an every three to six months schedule.
• Carpets in kindergartens or day care centers require extra attention. Young children are built low to the ground and attract a lot more dirt and dust than adults, as well as bacteria and viruses. Their developing immune systems are also much more susceptible to illness from bacteria or viruses. Therefore it is recommended that daycare centers have carpets professionally cleaned monthly.
• During a period of epidemic disease (such as flu): schools, hotels, nursing homes, restaurants and daycare centers should commit to rigorous weekly cleaning.

Vacuuming and Protection for Your Carpets

In between cleanings, keep your business’ carpets looking great by sticking to a routine vacuuming schedule. When having work done inside your location, put down adhesive carpet protection strips where the heaviest foot traffic will be. It’s also a great idea to place welcome mats both inside and outside of the main entryway for customers and employees to wipe their feet on before entering the space. When small spills or stains occur, you can blot (not rub) with a dry paper towel to remove as much of the moisture as you can. Don’t use spot cleaners on your carpet unless you have tested them in an out-of-the-way location first to ensure they don’t result in fading or damage to the carpet fiber. Finally, be aware that attempting to clean your business’ carpets on your own can result in a voided manufacturer’s warranty.

We hope this blog post helped you make an informed decision about carpet care for your business! If your business is located in the Asheville, NC area, give Five Step a call or contact us for your carpet care needs.

As you can see, these floors were looking pretty worn when we arrived. The original luster of the wood is completely gone, and the surface is marred with scuff marks and—is that paint?

Tips for Hiring a GOOD Carpet Cleaner

asheville, hiring a good carpet cleaner

Hiring a good carpet cleaner can pose a difficult choice, to say the least. Since carpet cleaning is something most people only do once every couple of years, it can be hard to maintain a relationship with your carpet cleaner like you do with a mechanic or lawn care service. And with so many options on the market, it’s hard to know what type of service to go with. To make matters worse, many carpet cleaning companies make it nearly impossible to find out basic information through their website or promotional materials, such as whether they use bleach or soap products in their cleaning solutions. And then there are always those horror stories about carpets getting completely ruined by incompetent cleaners—or, even worse, a child or pet becoming ill from exposure to the carpet after cleaning.

Thankfully, there are ways to limit the possibility of something going horribly wrong when you are hiring a carpet cleaner. It’s a fairly simple matter of doing a small amount of homework before making your decision. Here’s a quick list of items to check up on for each company you consider.

  1. Find out how long the company has been in business. While a shorter length of time in business shouldn’t necessarily disqualify a carpet cleaning service (everyone has to start somewhere), it is important to determine how much experience the company has. You don’t want to be taken in by a fly-by-night company that will clean your carpets today and go out of business next week. If the company you’re considering has been around for less than a year or two, find out what experience the owner and employees had prior to the company’s opening, and check online for reviews and testimonials.
  2. Learn what type of equipment and carpet cleaning solutions they use. There are all types of carpet cleaning systems and equipment. You should be able to fairly easily determine what kind your prospective carpet cleaner uses by looking on their website. If they don’t have a website, that might be a warning sign. If the information you’re looking for isn’t readily available on the website, the owner or representative should answer your question when you ask without hesitation.
  3. Pricing considerations. There are a lot of things in life that you can skimp on, trying to get the absolute lowest price. Carpet cleaning is not one of them. An unbelievably low price usually means unbelievable incompetence. On the other hand, if the price seems way too expensive, you would probably do well to keep shopping. Do the math. Does it seem reasonable that a company could stay in business charging the price that you were quoted, without cutting corners?
  4. Make sure the company is bonded and insured. No matter how good a carpet cleaning service is, no one is immune to accidents. As with any service provider doing work in your home, make absolutely sure the service you choose is bonded and insured…just in case.
  5. Check Reviews. It’s the age of information! If you can’t find reviews of a service company online, chances are they’re either brand-spanking new, or they are going to great lengths to keep reviews off the internet. Good companies LOVE reviews. Even if there’s an occasional nasty one, the good ones more than make up for it by bringing new business to their door. Free sites like Yelp! and membership sites like Angie’s List will show you reviews of all the relevant service providers in your area. But Googling the name of the company you’re researching is also an effective way to find reviews.
  6. How do the company representatives treat you? Even if a company passes all five of the tests above, you want to make sure they’re going to treat you with respect and consideration. When you call or email the company, do they get back to you within a reasonable time frame? Are they friendly and courteous? Do they answer your questions honestly? If the company passes this final test, you’ve probably found yourself a keeper.

We hope this list helps you through the sometimes frustrating task of choosing a carpet care company. If you live in the Asheville, NC area, you are welcome to put us to the test! Peruse our blog and website, and feel free to call us at 828.772.1824 or get in touch through the contact form with any additional questions you might have.

Fine Rug Cleaning – Before and After

Hi, everyone! We’re back this week with more amazing before-and-after shots of our work. It’s something we like to do on the blog from time to time, because we’re really proud of our work! This time, we have a couple of fine rug cleaning photos we’d like to share with you.

This fine rug came to us looking a little worse for wear, as you can see in the picture on the left. The lighter colored areas of the rug are dingy-looking, and there are some areas of gray discoloration–probably from dirt staining. Sometimes, fine rugs just need a nice, long, luxurious bath! So that’s what we did.

As you can see in the shot on the right, our fine rug looked much better after its spa day! The lighter colored areas of the rug look bright and clean, the texture looks softer, and even the dark red border seems to pop a bit more.

Our rug cleaning solution contains no bleach, soap or enzymes, so the rug’s dyes and fibers are protected. There are no harmful toxins or chemicals, either, so our five step system is safe for your home, kids and pets. Best of all, we use much less water than our competitors, so our system is much more sustainable and environmentally friendly!

We also offer affordable rates and a convenient rug pick-up and delivery service. Check out our rates for fine rug and area rug cleaning below.

Asheville Tile and Slate Cleaning

asheville tile and slate cleaning

Did you know that Five Step Carpet Care is also Asheville’s top source for tile and slate cleaning? That’s right. In addition to cleaning WNC’s carpets, upholstery and wood floors, we also take care of tile and slate needs for our customers.

If you have tile or slate floors or walls in your home, you know they can start to look dull and dirty over time. The grout between the tiles can become stained, yellow, or aged-looking. Periodic deep cleaning is necessary to keep your floors looking new, but going the DIY route can leave your knuckles scraped and your knees aching. Not to mention the amount of time it can take without specialized equipment!

Instead of going it alone, give us a call! Our professional crew will make your tile sparkle, your grout gleam, and your slate shine!

We can handle any surface, including:

  • Bathrooms- tubs, showers, and floors
  • Kitchens- floors, backsplashes, counters and walls
  • Outdoor areas- terraces, decks, patios, pool areas
  • Traffic areas- foyers, hallways, staircases

As always, our cleaning procedures are sustainable and non-toxic, using just a fraction of the water our competitors use, and keeping harmful pollutants out of our precious waterways. Just one more reason to choose Five Step!

If you have dirty tile and grout or slate that needs a little TLC, contact us today or give us a call at 828.772.1824. We promise you’ll be glad you did!

Use this Carpet Cleaning Checklist to Prepare for Your Cleaning!

carpet cleaning checklist

Sometimes our customers ask what they can do to prepare for their carpet cleaning. There’s not much you need to do—we’re pretty self sufficient. But there are a couple of simple preparations you can make to help ensure that your carpet cleaning goes smoothly and quickly.

Here’s a carpet cleaning checklist that you can use to prepare on the day of your carpet cleaning.

  1. Schedule your carpet cleaning for a day when you won’t need to use the room. For instance, if you’re having the carpets cleaned in your den, and your son’s soccer team comes over on Thursdays after practice for pizza in the den, don’t schedule your carpet cleaning on a Thursday. Once the carpet has been cleaned, keep your family members and pets out of the room for a minimum of 3-4 hours to allow the carpet to dry.
  2. Pick up small items. Before the crew arrives, go through the room and do a quick pick-up. Move toys, magazine racks, sit-arounds, and other small items out of the room.
  3. Remove breakables from the room. Our professional staff is very careful and conscious when it comes to the safety of your belongings. When using our equipment, we always try to remain conscious of our surroundings to prevent any mishaps. But, better safe than sorry. If you have fragile items hanging on the walls, for instance, it might be a good idea to get them out of the way before your scheduled carpet cleaning.
  4. Get cats and dogs secured in another area of the house. Our carpet cleaning solutions are non-toxic and totally safe for you and your pets, but dogs and cats can get in the way when we’re cleaning. Or they might be frightened of our equipment. So the best bet is to get your pets secured in another room while the carpet crew is at your home.
  5. Move heavy furniture out of the way. We will move smaller items or furniture that can be slid from one side of the room to another, but please move all heavy items out of the room before our arrival. Or, our strapping crew can move your heavy furniture for you for an extra charge.
  6. Vacuum if you want—or don’t. Some of our clients prefer to vacuum the carpet before we arrive, but it’s not necessary. We will vacuum prior to cleaning.
  7. Prepare to be amazed! Your carpets are going to look GREAT after we’re done. If you’re prone to knee-weakness when you’re pleasantly surprised, you might want to get a chair ready to collapse in!

And that’s it! We’ll take care of the rest.

We hope you found this carpet cleaning checklist helpful. If you are looking for a sustainable, green carpet cleaning service in the Asheville, NC area, contact us or give us a call at 828.772.1824 today!
